Literature review

The literature review is divided into two segments. The first segment is a theoretical literature review. The theoretical literature review incorporates the theories that may be used to explain the topic being discussed. The second segment is the empirical literature review. Previous research on the topic is summarized in the empirical literature review, depending on the themes that they foster. In this case, only the empirical literature review will be used. The topic under investigation is mental health. Specifically, speech and language development and autism spectrum disorder will be analyzed from the previous research papers that have been conducted on the topic.

Cummins (2011) examines how fueling academic growth for the learners has played a part in literature engagement. According to the study, the English language and its proficiency are primary needs that have the schooling frameworks of most schools universally promoted. Since it is a common language, it has led many people to engage with each other and understand each other. Further, the study investigates the mental explanation of speech, enabling people to learn and speak the English language. The study identifies the human cerebrum for utilizing the phonological code to speak to the etymological data. That enables people to know the unmistakable arrangement of sounds in different languages and how the sounds can be joined into words and syllables.

Jill et al. (2017), in his study, mapped the early language environment of kids. The language environment of kids can be used to determine their mental health. Kids with good mental health have higher abilities for language development. That is attributed to their mental sharpness. Additionally, the first language that a kid learns affects the kid’s ability to learn a second language. That can be learned through the formative spelling appraisals. The different phonetics influences that in different languages. That

portrays their phonetic abilities.

Julie et al. (2012) further investigate the issue of language development. According to the study, reading books has an integral role in language development around the world. The study identifies that students that are more proficient in their first language are more likely to be proficient in English as their second language. Reading books is essential in developing language proficiency as one can learn a lot from reading. A student may identify the sentence structure, the use of verbs, and prepositions. The transition between sentences, among others. Through reading, most students have learned more vocabulary. Therefore, reading is one way that may be used to boost a child’s mental health.

A child’s reading abilities and language development can be an indicator of their mental health. Additionally, the ability of a child to learn a second language shows their mental sharpness. (David & Michelle, 2011). According to Anne et al. (2014), speech development is essential in promoting mental health. The study investigates how speech development reduces the prevalence of autism, which is a mental disorder. Most kids are bilingual. Learning more than one language can help a child communicate effectively with other people and also express themselves. That improves their mental health, thus making them prevalent in autism spectrum disorder. Autism is a mental disorder where a person’s social skills, non-verbal communication, and speech are affected. When children are helped in language development, it cancels most of the effects of autism spectrum disorder.

Elena et al. (2014) investigated the vocal patterns in infants with an autism spectrum disorder. Some indicators of mental wellness were used to identify the degree of mental health of the kids. The used indicators were unequivocal educating, English learning, phonemic mindfulness and disentangling, jargon advancement, intelligent educating, and guidance designed for low entertainers. That indicates that learning languages and speech development can be used in identifying a person’s mental wellness.
